Hedge trimmer
ARS hedge shears – curved blades for an even cut
On ARS hedge shears both the blade and the handles are gently curved, which gives a perpendicular cutting angle even with a natural arm position. Three models are available with cutting capacities between 6 and 10 mm, from 550 to 840 grams. The blades are replaceable, and you will find them in the blades and saw blades category.
Which hedge shears should you choose?
The choice depends mainly on the height of the hedge and the thickness of the shoots.
| Model | Overall length | Blade length | Cutting capacity | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| K-800 | 500 mm | 150 mm | 6 mm | 550 g |
| KR-1000 | 653 mm | 180 mm | 10 mm | 780 g |
| KR-1000L | 750 mm | 180 mm | 10 mm | 840 g |
Why are the blades and handles curved?
There is a practical reason. The curve means the cutting edge meets the face of the hedge square-on even with a natural arm position, which gives a more even cut plane and puts less strain on the wrist. With straight-bladed shears you would have to rotate your arm to achieve the same result.
The role of weight
When trimming a hedge, the weight of the tool tells on the hundredth cut, not when you pick it up. It directly determines how long you can work to a consistent standard. The light 550 gram K-800 is therefore an advantage on box topiary and ornamental shrubs, while the longer KR-1000L saves you stretching on a taller hedge.
Maintenance
Hedge sap and resin stick to the blade quickly and degrade the quality of the cut. Wipe the blade after use with the ARS GO-1 blade cleaner. For sharpening, the ARS SD-100-BT diamond sharpener is suitable. For pruning shears see the pruning shears category, and for thicker branches loppers.
