That layer increases friction, so the same branch takes more force, degrades the quality of the cut, and by holding moisture against the steel it can start corrosion. A dry cloth will not shift dried resin; you need a solvent.
How it works
The formula contains a mineral enzyme, water, natural orange extract and a surfactant. It dissolves resin in roughly 15 seconds, after which the blade can be wiped clean. The orange extract does most of the dissolving, which makes it gentler than aggressive industrial solvents.
