ARS accessories – sharpening, cleaning, carrying
What determines the working life of a good tool is not the number of cuts but the quality of maintenance. The accessories cover three jobs: sharpeners keep the cutting edge in shape, the blade cleaner dissolves stuck-on resin, and the holster provides safe carrying.

Which sharpener do you need?
This is the most common mistake in this category, so it is worth stating plainly: saws and pruning shears take different sharpeners. The choice is not a matter of preference but of which tool you own.

Why cleaning the blade matters
As you prune, sap from trees and plants builds up on the blade and dries into a hard, sticky layer. That increases friction, so the same branch takes more force, degrades the quality of the cut, and by holding moisture against the steel it can start corrosion. Sap left on the blade can also carry fungal and bacterial pathogens from one plant to the next, which is a particular risk after cutting a diseased branch.

Frequently asked questions
Which sharpener do I need for my saw?
The ARS 9F-10 file, which has a profile shaped for saw teeth. Diamond sharpeners are for pruning shear blades and are not suitable for saws.
Can every saw be sharpened?
No. Models with impulse-hardened teeth cannot be re-sharpened; on those, replacing the blade is the answer.
How often should I clean the blade?
Daily under intensive use, and at the end of every session for occasional pruning. Always after cutting a diseased plant, before the blade touches a healthy one.
